These conditions are a routine part of dermatology practice, your consultation is completely confidential, and effective treatment is available for the great majority of them.

About Genital Skin Conditions
A wide range of inflammatory conditions and benign skin disorders can affect the genital area. We commonly assess genital eczema and vulval dermatitis, genital psoriasis, lichen sclerosus and lichen planus, balanitis, fungal infections affecting the genital skin, and benign genital skin lesions.
Please note: this service is intended for the assessment and management of genital skin conditions. If your symptoms suggest a sexually transmitted infection or another condition requiring specialist sexual health or urological assessment, we will explain our concerns and advise you on the most appropriate next steps, including referral where appropriate.

Assessment
We’ll discuss your symptoms and history at your pace — nothing is rushed and nothing shocks us.
Examination
Where clinically appropriate, and only with your consent, the affected skin is examined carefully and respectfully. A chaperone is always available, and offered as standard.
Your plan
We’ll explain the diagnosis clearly and agree a personalised, evidence-based treatment plan.
Follow-up
Reviews can be arranged where needed — some conditions, such as lichen sclerosus, benefit from ongoing monitoring.

Genital Skin Conditions FAQs
Your consultation takes place in a private clinical setting, and your personal information is handled in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and our professional duty of medical confidentiality.
Where clinically appropriate, and only with your consent, the affected skin will be examined carefully and respectfully. A chaperone is available for all examinations and will routinely be offered for intimate examinations in accordance with our Chaperone Policy.
Most genital skin conditions are benign and are not caused by skin cancer. However, persistent ulcers, non-healing sores, changing lesions or unexplained lumps should always be assessed promptly. If we identify any features of concern, we will explain our findings and discuss any further investigations or referral that may be needed.
Most people don’t. If a small biopsy would help confirm the diagnosis or guide treatment, we’ll explain exactly why and answer all your questions before anything is decided.
